“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15
Going into this year, we have lots of hopes for the parishes we are serving, but after reflecting on the first couple weeks of ministry the Lord showed us what we are truly called to do this year: be walking Christs for the parishes to see. We are learning every day that the Holy Spirit cannot be put in a box. Coming to understand this has brought forth many wonderful experiences and ways to be walking Christs among the people!
The ministry of a Discipleship Team takes patience and understanding to begin entering into the youths, young adults, and families lives. This is a year for growth and encountering not always full of big conversions.
A highlight for the team in the first month on the road was putting on the first men and women’s night for all the youth in the parishes. The evenings were filled with social activities, a talk, and time to grow in relationship with the men and women in this community. This is when we realized just by showing them love in the small ways of listening to their high school and middle school stories was a strong way to be a witness to them. Men and women’s night was not about talking at them trying to tell them how to grow in their faith as high school and middle schoolers, but it was about being living Christs to them and loving them where they are at and bringing Christ to where they are at as well.
I know God rejoices in seeing men and women come to the events put on for them but when the youth are able to meet Him through us and through their peers it is clear that this faith journey for them is just starting and there can be much more expected from them.
